Assign seats at lunch for ninth graders during the first week of school.
Run this project so no ninth graders have to figure out where to sit during the first week of school. Randomly assign seats for ninth graders during the first week and include discussion questions at each table to keep the conversation moving.
Tips & Suggestions:
- Depending on the size of your inspirED team, a member can sit at each table to facilitate conversation and meet new students.
- Studies show meeting new people can make you happier (Epley & Schroeder, 2014).
- Increasing social connectivity in schools fosters higher levels of student engagement and academic achievement (Cothran & Ennis, 1999).
- Eating lunch with others fosters community integration and improves social well-being (Julier, 2013).
