Create a period where students can go to teachers for extra help.
“See me after class” never sounded so helpful. Create a period in the school day or week where students can choose which teacher to see for extra help or enrichment or just to have a place and time to study or do a group project.
Work with administrators to make sure logistics and scheduling allow for this time.
Tips & Suggestions:
- Many programs schools already use to track attendance and grades have a functionality to schedule students into a flex block.
- Positive student-teacher relationships lead to higher levels of student engagement and better learning outcomes (Skinner & Belmont, 1993).
- In a 2017 poll 55% of students reported feeling stuck or discouraged in school (Gallup Inc, 2017).
